Five ways to become more productive at the time of quarantine for PR professionals.
The whole world is fighting against Novel COVID-19. The
only way that can help control this virus is social distancing, and in the wake
of the COVID-19 outbreak government has put down lockdown to curb the spread of
Coronavirus.
While we all are quarantined at this point in time for our
safety and for the safety of our society, the entire business community is
suffering due to slowdown. Meanwhile, the service industry is one industry that
has taken a big hit.
As we are also related to the service industry, time is crucial
for all of us. The biggest challenge as a PR professional we face is; not able
to connect with people. The second biggest challenge is; this is an entirely
new experience for us.
Working from home and not going out at all has taken a toll on
many people. It does affect our productivity as well. Hence, I tried to
list down few points down to remain productive at the time of crisis.

Don’t use WhatsApp:
Try to avoid WhatsApp for professional use. What’s app is an
application that is primarily being used for general conversation rather than
personal conversations? Lately, it is being used for professional conversations
as well. So, while working from home, we generally don’t feel the time we spend
or rather waste over these platforms. This is a challenging time with the
journalists as well. So, it is always suggested for a better outcome to keep
professional conversation aside from personal conversation.
Use mails rather than calls:
We should avoid using personal calls and messages to the
journalists. The journalists are also keeping quarantined, which means they are
mostly at home close to family. Nobody likes to be disturbed regularly while at
home. So, it is always a better practice to keep our professional conversation
strictly professional. Use emails, text messages to keep in touch or inform
them about the new stories.
Use work stations:
Using work stations at home is key to many psychological boosts.
Let us understand this in a simple way. Offices are there because it promotes a
collective work environment and moreover psychologically when we reach office,
subconsciously it appears that; it is a time to work. But when we work
from home the same mindset perishes. Hence, to conquer this mindset, we need to
have a dedicated workstation for us to work. This helps in productivity as we
sit on that chair; subconsciously it helps in focusing on work. So, it is very
important for all of us to use work stations in order to remain productive.
Avoid Using social media:
We all know that social media is almost time waste. I used the
word almost here because social media helps PR professionals to
keep updated about the industry. But, as the nature of social media suggests,
once we are on it, we tend to spend more time. So while we can’t do without it,
we should use it smartly. You can use a lot of application which helps people
to keep in check about the wastage of time. Using such an application is highly
recommended at this moment to curb the productivity issue.

Taking a short break: Studies has shown that taking a short
break in between work helps people in productivity. Use 35-5-35 rules. That is,
after every 35 minutes of work take a break for 5 minutes. This helps people to
get fresh and remain productive throughout the day.
“The key to success is discipline. Try these five ways to
keep yourself on a roll all day long while working from home.“
